Abstract :
Vinyl phosphonic acid was included in small amounts in the radical copolymerization systems of acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate, and vinyl acetate to produce acrylonitrile-methyl acrylate-vinyl phosphonic acid and acrylonitrile-vinyl acetate-vinyl phosphonic acid terpolymers to improve thermal and fire-resistance properties. The amount of vinyl phosphonic acid is important in terms of terpolymer properties. Similarly, a small amount of vinyl phosphonic acid and Methacryloxypropyl Terminated Polydimethylsiloxanes (MCR-PDMS) were used to produce acrylonitrile-MCR-PDMS- vinyl phosphonic acid terpolymers. The silicon telomer part of MCR-PDMS and the phosphorous of vinyl phosphonic acid improve both thermal resistance and enhance the process performance of the fiber. Terpolymers were characterized by FTIR and 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR and thermal properties were examined with TGA. A thermal oxidative stabilization study was carried out at 220 oC. Nanofibers of terpolymers were successfully produced from thermal resistance terpolymers.
