Abstract :
Essential oils are volatile components that exhibit bioactivity and are derived from fragrant plants. They have numerous roles in the agricultural, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and biomedical industries. The essential oil's low solubility, volatility, and sensitivity to environmental conditions restricted its use as a wound healing agent. In the current study, lavender essential oil (LAV)-loaded emulsion hydrogels are rapidly and successfully generated by free radical photopolymerization of polyacrylamide in the continuous phase of an oil-in-water Pickering emulsion template. Acrylamide monomer was used as a water phase, whereas LAV were used as the oil phase. β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) is a carbonhydrate, and it is an effective emulsifier for preparing LAV in water Pickering emulsions. The chemical groups in the hydrogels were determined using Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FT-IR). Furthermore, the max swelling capability of hydrogels was measured 1673% for 24 h. They have antibacterial activity against both gram-negative (E.coli) and gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus). According to the findings, the produced hydrogels might be use as wound dressings.
