Application of Fracture Toughness and Fatigue Testing to Long Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyamide 6 (PA 6) Composite

Abstract :
Long fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites show extremely high mechanical strength. However, they exhibit a tendency to fail quite readily under tensile stress owing to the poor impregnation. In the current study, we focused on the tensile-tensile fatigue behaviour and fatigue toughness of a woven carbon-fibre-reinforced composite with polyamide 6 resin. As a result of the tensile test, the highest strength was found to be 93 MPa. In repeated loading, a fatigue life of more than 1 million cycles was determined at 42.78 MPa. Also, the highest critical stress intensity factor (KI )value was calculated to be 0,33 MPa√m.
