Abstract :
In this study, the wear rates of neat carbon fiber composites and carbon fiber composites containing carbon nanotube additives added at certain weight ratios were examined using image processing processes under constant load and speed. The contribution rates of CNTs added as additives in carbon fiber composites were determined as 0.5%, 1% and 2% by weight. Wear tests were performed on a fixed path of 1000 m. The images in which the image processing processes were performed were made on the SEM images obtained as a result of the wear tests. The effect of CNTs additives on the wear amount of composite materials is known; however, studies evaluating the wear amount on SEM images obtained after the tests are limited. Additionally, the wear areas were accurately found because of the image processing processes. For the image processing method to be effective, the correct process must be applied. The image processing processes developed in this study revealed the worn areas in the composite material in more detail. Based on these results, it was determined that the best CNT additive ratio added to the carbon fiber composites was 0.5% by weight. In this study, effective results were achieved by evaluating only the SEM wear images without relying on the mechanical test results.
