Abstract :
Protective textiles is one of the key product group in technical textiles and they are being developed with a focus on performance rather than aesthetic concerns. In this study, it was aimed that, to investigate the effect of three newly developed weave constructions on thermal protection and comfort properties. For this purpose, new fabric structures were designed and produced by using warp and weft yarns of different twisting factors. The yarns used in the sampling were produced with the blend of 45% Meta-aramid, 45% FR Viscose, 9% Poliamid 6.6 and 1% Anti-static fiber. Single layer fabric samples were produced with different weave structures by using three warp and five weft yarns with different twist factors, and last of all 45 different fabric structures were obtained for the experimental study. Air permeability, water vapor permeability, thermal resistance, abrasion resistance and fabric thickness tests were applied to fabric samples. In addition to fabric tests, yarn count, twist, breaking strength and breaking elongation tests were applied to yarn samples. Based on the testing results, it was revealed that significant increases were achieved in the thermal resistance of the fabrics, depending on twist factors and weaving structures changes. However, it was not observed significant deviations for the water vapor permeability and abrasion resistance values or a serious losses in the comfort properties of the fabric. As conclusion, thermal resistance is being effected more by weave structure rather than yarn twist factor.
